When Hauschka fills his piano with table-tennis balls or ads clothes pegs, he creates a unique rhythmic hybrid of techno and minimal music, musique concrète and pop.
The prepared piano, the undisputed domain of Volker Bertelmann, has always been a means to an end for the Düsseldorf-based pianist and composer. When Hauschka fills his grand pianos with table-tennis balls or vibrators, with clothes pegs and sticky tape, and then plays the keys with repetitive phrases, he creates a unique rhythmic hybrid of techno and minimal music, musique concrète and, yes, pop. Most recently, the Oscar-nominated artist has been devoting his attention to the future: “What If”, Hauschka’s eighth studio album, tells of the inability to fulfil basic needs such as housing and food. That Hauschka has never performed in Austria during his career is a mystery – and it’s high time to put an end to this sad phase!
We are sorry to announce that the Hauschka concert has to be cancelled due to illness! Tickets already purchased can be replaced or returned at the steirischer herbst ticket and information offices. We apologize for any inconvenience and wish Hauschka a speedy recovery!
