With Marko Lulić (AT)

Public writing and monuments in public space play an important role in the work of Marko Lulić. He detaches ideologically laden signs from their usual function, revealing their nature as political models and thus suddenly rendering them ambivalent.

The Institut für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Steiermark has invited Marko Lulić to create an installation at VAZ Mürzer Oberland in the Kapellen area in the Mürz valley. For some time, the Institute has been devoting its attention to this special region with its diverse political, ecclesiastical and industrial past and the special conditions in terms of climate and geography: it is a fascinating theme for contemporary art to grapple with. Marko Lulić engages with these special local conditions with his intervention.

In cooperation with Institut für Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Steiermark

Marko Lulić (AT)

Marko Lulić was born in Vienna in 1972 and lives and works as a multidisciplinary artist in the Austrian capital. Lulić grew up in Austria and Croatia and studied at the University of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Since then he has dedicated his artistic practice to the deconstruction of forms, signs and monuments and to modernism’s ideological legacy in Eastern and Western Europe, with presentations of his works in New York, Sydney and Zagreb, among other places. In addition to his work as a visual artist, which has gained him such prizes as the Kardinal König Art Prize in 2009, Lulić works as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
