Anyone who wants to ascend Elfriede Jelinek’s magnum opus is invited to the Veranstaltungszentrum Mürzer Oberland. Food and drink, cinema and literature – and many an unforgettable night – await the brave members of the expedition in this Base Camp.
It’s only logical to imagine great works of literature as massifs: full of overwhelming panoramas, never to be conquered completely, the innumerable possible passages through their great diversity – no mean feat for the mountaineer! Naturally, anyone who sets out to ascend such works created by nature and by human hand needs a Base Camp. A place where the inner party can make its plans and prepare in body and in mind for the great undertaking.
At the Veranstaltungszentrum (VAZ) Mürzer Oberland in Kapellen, just before Neuberg, steirischer herbst sets up this site for the expeditions into “Die Kinder der Toten”. This is the meeting place for everyone. Here we prepare and eat dead animals to fortify us for our enterprise; here collaborators and interested people are prepared with a crash course for the big shoot; here you’ll find information about Elfriede Jelinek, her novel and the film project; here we throw ourselves into a 144-hour nonstop reading of “Die Kinder der Toten”; here “Cinema 666” inspires its audience with home movies, films by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma and all manner of happiness and horror. Here we want to gather until the early hours.
